wiring to trunk

Would there by any chance be a constant hot wire ( or a wire not used for anything in particular, like a power antennae lead that isn't in use )capable of carrying 20-30 amps running to the trunk already on my '82 300sd?

If not, what is the best way to route one?

Thanks-----------Robert

There's a power wire to the antenna and the central locking pump but I doubt either is rated for 20-30 amps continuous.

If you're wiring a stereo amplifier or a WVO heater, use dedicated wiring with dedicated fuses. A wiring kit for a big amplifier should handle that load.

You can route wires down the door sills to the back seat, then up behind the seatback into the trunk. Protect wiring where it goes through the bulkhead.

You guessed it, a wvo heater.
Will I need to remove the seat back to get wires through, or will I be able to fish them through?

Rear seat has to come off. There's a tab where the seat cushion meets the carpet at either end. Press both tabs toward the center of the car then pull up the forward edge of the seat cushion. Pull forward then remove. There are 3 8mm head screws holding the seat back along the bottom edge. Remove the screws then pull up the seat back to disengage from the hooks near the speakers. Pull forward then remove. Peel back the black insulation pad to expose a number of holes in the bulkhead.

From the trunk, remove the lining panels. I think the side panels have to come out before the forward panel. Be careful what you do with the forward panel - that's the fuel tank on the other side.

Your car has a wire chase that runs, front to back, down both sides of your car under the seats . After you remove the rear seat run a fish tape/wire through to the front and connect to the battery or a fused source under the dash.

I would run a wire for the battery with fuse AT the battery. You can run it throught the firewall groumet and follow other comment to run it with the car wire. Just remember to put fuse by the battery, otherwise, if the wire is shorten, the wire might burn ( I saw it happening in front of me)

Good luck

Sam
