Possible to remove crankshaft seal with Crank still in place?
I hope it is...anybody have any special suggestions? Any special techniques? I cant pull the timing cover, I just dont have the time...

front crank seal
1987 300D
Verbatim: remove Radiator remove poly "V" belt remove Belt pulley (You assume from the "Crank") remove vibration damper remove crank radial seal [Of course it shows a "Special Tool" for removal and installation] (Mechanic's Pick for removal and LARGE socket for installation , MY Method) Wher the heck are all the real experts?? |

compress ignite did a good job for the front seal! OF course the rear seal ia a "rope" seal & the crankshaft has to be removed to replace the upper half.

"ask and thou shalt recieve" The Doctor was in. A question? two versions of front crank seal:1st is to be installed after oiling rubber lip, 2nd version (which is what C.M. has on the 603.960 ,I believe) is to be installed dry???? Last edited by compress ignite; 10-28-2004 at 07:08 PM. |

Only seals W/Out a spring loaded lip are to be installed DRY.
