Yes, ASR

Thanks, Arthur. Besides the Hall Effect Sensor, (or Brake Stop Switch) what about the codes on pin 6? The 4 and 9 that won't clear? What is pin 6?

Thanks,

Charles

Clearing Codes

Arthur,

First, thanks for all your help. You are a tremendous asset to this forum.

The pin 6 codes don't want to clear, but I will try again. I guess the squib is the explosive device in the seat belt and it has some kind of short.

But that shouldn't effect the CEL. This should be the brake stop switch or the Hall effect sensor. Since I have a gas car do I have a Hall effect sensor? I thought they were only for Diesels with Tempomat?

Thanks,

Charlie

The Hall sensor is the speed signal feed for the CC module..
The other VSS sensor is in the rear axle and it is for ABS and ASR

If it were my car , I would change the stop lamp switch , reset the codes and see what happens

after I checked fuse 5 for good contact..

Then I would check the hall for ohms..
in that order..

Stop lamp is common intermitant problem, specially w/ASR .. but you did not get back to me on my ASR????.. so , I have to guess..

Code 20

Yes to ASR. But no ASR light (knock wood, spit three times).

I bought the stop lamp switch today and I will install it this evening.

I don't think I can change the Hall Effect Sensor because it appears to be integrated into the speedo. I would need to buy a used instrument cluster.

I took fuse 5 out for a spin. How many times do I have to spin while holding it?

Charles

Code 20

Arthur,

I disconnected the battery and changed the brake stop switch. I reconnected the juice, cleared the codes, and took her for a ride.

I stopped a couple of times to turn off the engine. The CEL came back.

Code 20 from built-in led. I checked the codes when I got home and this time, in addition to the code 9 in pin 14, I also got code out of pin 8. They were 28 and 40.

I hadn't gotten anything out of pin 8 previously, perhaps it's because I disconnected the battery? What are these?

If I do have a bad hall effect sensor, I guess I an live with it until I find a used speedo.

Time to get out the black tape.

Thanks,

Charles

Tonight's Codes

Emissions: 20
Pin 8 :1
Pin 14: 9

Cleared all except emissions. That wouldn't clear.
