Cruise control
The cruise control on my 1981 300 SD doesn't work. It apparently can't be repaired and estimates to replace it are quite high, ($1,200?). I asked about after market products but that also, according to our mechanic (who is proven trusted and competent over many years) is not possible. While our mechanic is good, they are not MB experts and I wonder how thoroughly they checked into my options. It just seems I could somehow get cruise control functioning restored without such a huge expense?! I like this car as economical, long lasting transportation, not because I'm an enthusiast ready to pay any amounts to have it in some kind of authentic, pristine condition. Any help or advice on a reasonable cruise control fix? Thanks! --Peter

Your exact answer is in the archives. Hit search above. Some light reading in the meantime: http://gdl-online.com/begin1.html
Do NOT NOT pay $1200 for cruise repair. Search eBay and local wrecker's. Contact GDL, Programma and/or George Murphy about rebuilt cruise amps. Use GDL page for diagnosis. See archives about resoldering successes of some of the "boys".

cruise
I had GDL repair my cruise amp about a year ago and it's been perfect since. They have a two year warranty, reasonable rates, quick turnaround-a quality outfit.
