Turn signal/multi switch replacement

My turn signal/multi use switch has gone kaput (it just flops around; it is almost impossible to have any say in whether or not the high beams are on or off). I ordered a new one and it looks to me like I have to remove the steering wheel to replace it, is this true? If so can anyone give me any tips, advice or special tools needed for this job?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Bald Bill

Oops! Please forgive me; the other lists that I am on they show that info under the user name. Sorry.

The car is a 1997 E420 Sport
