Can non-programmable seat be upgraded by swapping switch?

Can non-programmable seat be upgraded by swapping switch?

Car in question is a 1995 E300D. It currently does not have the memory (programmable) seat switches, just the standard power seat switches. Is it possible to upgrade to memory seats by simply changing out the switches in the doors to ones with the memory buttons, or is there more to it?
