Hydraulic filter change on E320 Wagon?

Last weekend I flushed the hydraulic fluid on my '98 E320 Wagon. This is the fluid used by the power steering and self-leveling suspension. There's a filter located just inside the hydraulic fluid reservoir, connected to the return line I believe. Anyhow, does anyone know how to remove/change this filter?

Here are the parts that the dealer special-ordered for me:
Hydraulic Oil Filter 002-184-55-01 $10.06
Seal Ring 210-327-00-60 $1.61
Seal Ring 123-327-01-60 $2.88

I tried twisting the old filter off, but it didn't seem like that was having any effect. I tried pulling it straight off, too. There's a metal wire/spring at the end of the filter (looks like it runs thru the center of the filter), and I can't tell how everything is put together. Any help would be appreciated!

BTW, I flushed the fluid with 4 liters of the special MB fluid; it's like $20 per liter (liquid gold?).

Regards,
Steve

Did you ever figure out how to replace the hydraulic fluid filter in your wagon? I am also stumped by how to replace this part.
