Antitheft/Tow-Away Protection Switch

1999 SLK230 Sport Coupe: Tow-Away Protection Indicator Lamp on Switch remains solid red when ignition switch is on, when engine is running, and car is turned off and the antitheft alarm is armed. The Indicator Lamp is supposed to flash, not remain burning steadily. Pressing the Tow-Away Protection switch has no effect on its operation at this point. Alarm is also triggering or being set-off.

Any ideas on a solution to this problem?

Is there a box that has a leveling sensor that needs adjusting or replacing? If so, where is it located?

I tried pulling fuses but not one will cause the indicator lamp to go out in order to disable the system.

Please help! I don't want to leave my car unlocked in the parking lot at my office.

The PSE control module controls the door locks and anti-theft alarm on your car. It's located behind the right rear panel in the trunk. I'll bet if you take a look at it you'll find it's full of water. This is due to a clogged body drain or a leaking trunk seal. I've seen this happen many times. I hope this helps.

Thumbs up

Thanks for your help! Problem Solved. The foam protective housing surrounding the PSE had moisture inside, not real wet, but enough to cause the problem. I took the unit completely apart and cleaned all of the contacts and connnectors and reassembled the unit and it's working great!

Thanks again for your assistance,

Kelley
