idle speed

I have a 1995 s280 type w140 and it ticks over at 1100 rpm, could any one tell me how i change the idle speed, also would this account for my cruise control not working?
many thanks,
Lester

You may have a fault with your throttle body actuator. When the position sensor starts failing they open the throttle slightly more than normal which gives the high idle. The cruise control won't operate either because it can't work out where the throttle position is.

You'll need to get some fault codes to be sure though. I'll try and find some tests for you tomorrow.

nomal idel ?

What is the normal idel speed? My car used to stay around 600 rpm at idel. Today, I cleaned up some connector around ICV. Now go up to 800 rpm at idel. Is it OK? Thanks.

re idle speed

I took my w140 s280 to an independant dealer and had a diagnostic check and it threw up fault code 022 cc/ea actuator report limp home mode.
Does any one know what this code means?
many thanks for a great forum.

First thing I would check is a vacuum leak to the intake manifold.

re idle speed

Thanks for the reply Steve, I have already had the manifold off and fitted new seals etc, etc, but that did not change the idle speed at all, and i have really looked hard for an air leak in that area. I just don't know what to do next.

Well, the next thing would be to follow the code message - cruise control actuator. This should be linked to the throttle valve, so if it is not hooked up right, or is defective in some way, this would affect throttle position.
