silencing "lifters" noise 190E
During the last few months the "tapping" noise in the lifters area has become somewhat louder in my 88' 190E 2.3 8vlv. The head has new valve seals and guides and the head was checked out for wear.
But I did not do anything to the camshaft/lifters area. I still have the tapping noise and was wondering if ordering the 8 hydraulic lifters listed in the shop would silence the noise... Is there anything else that I must buy besides the hydraulic lifters??? |

Is it only since you replaced the valve stem seals? if so did you make sure you put all the oil washers back when you put the rocker assemblies back on, they sit between lash adjuster and valve stem.

If the cup washers that Ozzy pointed out are properly in place, I would run a few short changes of Delo, Rotella or Delvac through it.
Drain the oil while the engine is hot and replace oil and filter with one of these oils. Run it about 500 miles and do it again, always draining oil while hot. These oils have LOTS of detergent in them and will clean out any gunked up oil passages. Once the ticking goes away you can go back to your favorite brew with proper oil change frequency. Good luck and Merry Christmas, |
