85 380SE
Last nite I drove from Baltimore to Richmond, with no issues...other than dealing with steering slop. But this morning the tranny wont shift out of its starting gear. Any ideas?
thx

TransX

I had the same problem with a 240D Automatic. I added a quart of transX from autozone...It took about 3-4 blocks to clear the problem...I think that one of the interior small pasageways was blocked...anyhow the transX worked for me...Jim

hmmm

I just have the trans fluid changed less than 500 miles ago...Would another quart of fluid screw up the tranny?

Check the kick-down switch under the accelerator pedal. If it is stuck than the transmition will be in first gear only. Pull the top of the kick-down switch or disconnect it to test it. Good luck.

Fluid Level

I would drain the fluid(you will get about 3 quarts and then I would add the transx and then refill the transmission...I wouldn't overfill it...Let us know if the kick down fix works???Good Luck Jim

Transmission wont shift into high and popped into neutral at highway speed

1988 420SEL 160k Trans popped out of drive on me yesterday (right near Richmond) and then ones I put it back into drive it began working ok. I checked fluid, was ok. Same happened a second time. Then I noticed it is not shifting into the high gear. At 60 mph instead of 2000 rpm I see 3000 and it doesnt shift up. When I put it into neutral and back into drive, all at highway speed, then it goes into the high gear. Does this sound like TransX might cure this or is this bad news?

TransX-

I would drain the transmission. I would try the transX(it is only about 8-9 a quart)....If you have a partially blocked passageway it will help clean it out...I would not overfill...good luck...Jim
