210 E class 'tip-tronic' not working
Hi all,
Just bought a 2001 and 210 wagon. The auto-stick or tip-tronic function does not work. Tranny insists on staying in D. Upon instruction to downshift to say "4", tranny ponders downshifting, ultimately does it but then bounces back to D. Same thing when standing. One can shift to "1", but it bounces back to D. I recall Car&Driver had this issue with an E55 they tested. Is this a common problem? How expensive to fix? Thanks for any help cheers farrukh |

I think that only applied to not being able too shift out of park, due to a defected stop light switch. It could be a soft ware problem or the Trans range recognition switch, shifter. You will have to pull any diagnostic codes stored, first.

No range recognition switch with the Touch-shifter, the whole thing is a control module.

Yes you are right; the touch shifters have an electronic lever module that receives a signal from the shifter, Thanks

I did just see this mentioned in my 722.6 complaint/cause/remedy info, but it was more towards the earlier production run cars with the touchshift (earlier 2000 models). They said the shifter isn't centered, but at any rate there is no repair to the shifter, have to replace it.
