Injector cleaner types

I have read from another forum that there are two types of fuel injector cleaners, Catalyst based and Solvent based.

The Catalyst based cleaners like Techron (USA) and Redline SI-1 / SI-2 are better and more expensive. Techron & Redline SI-1 & SI-2 also assist in removing carbon build up from the combustion chamber.

Solvent based cleaners such as STP fuel injection cleaner are less effective.

Best Injector cleaner -it depends

My opinion--based on smattering of knowledge gained from working in the area of science that formulates and manufactures the stuff I ain't a rocket scientist -- I'm an oil boiler
For 'normal' intake valve and injector deposits--TECHRON --the big container in 20gal tank of Chevron or Shell does a very very good job.

For BAD problems (misfiring),BG-44 is THE BEST hands down--but it is agressive and should not be used unless necessary in my opinion. I believe in using the most moderate special chemical that will do the job.

IF you use a gasoline that advertizes 'drive clean', or 'clean-up' in any form or fashion, they WILL clean-up and keep clean your engine--they HAVE been tested and PROVEN to work. Federal regulations DO require a minimal level of detergency in all motor gasolines, but it is clearly inadequate for many fuels and cars.

Techron prices

<>>

Twenty gallons of Techron for 10 bucks? It is to laugh. The less than one pint bottle sold by Chevron (among others) which is enough to treat 20 gallons costs around seven bucks, last one I bought.

Do not confuse Techron with the watered down parts store version sold under a similar name.

BTW, Bosch recommends Techron but no more than twice without an oil change. Their words.
