I bought mine from . . .

George Murphy of Performance Analysis Company. He's also (or has been in years gone by) a tech advisor for MBCA and has often had articles in The Star. His address:

George Murphy
Performance Analysis Co.
1345 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Ste. 258
Oak Ridge, TN 38730
(865) 482-9175 (voice or fax)
george_murphy@compuserve.com

He sells other rebuilt parts for older MBs, though I've never bought anything else from him. The Topsider cost 49.95 this past summer, 2004.

To those who drain the oil, as I used to: What do you do when the plastic, inexpensive oil drain pan starts to leak during or after your oil change? I don't think anybody makes a steel drain pan that won't leak and can be sealed up so you can take the oil to the recycle place. The Topsider offers that. For those of us without a garage, it seems the best compromise.

I use the Mityvac 7200 series that works nicely. I have a pit in my garage designed for doing my own work on my vehicles, especially oil changes, but the reason I bought any style of oil extraction system is the drain plug location of my M-Class. The plug is directly above the steering control linkeages. Without some type of home made diverter the oil will splash all over, thus it was a better option to extract the oil rather than drain it.
