Rent/borrow a spring compressor?
I need to replace the ball joints on my 87 300DT. I have no interest in trying to do it with anything but a legitimate compressor. Any ideas or resources out there? Otherwise it is pay the 500 bones.
Thanks, Dan Martin 1987 MB 300DT 2002 Golf TDI 1969 BMW 2002

Autozone loans spring compressors with a refundable deposit.

You don't really need a spring compressor. You need the ball joint extraction tool, or take the spindle(s) to a shop and have them R&R the ball joints for you. That's what I had to do.
You'll need to compressor if you are going to replace the lower control arm bushing, i.e. replace it.
