automatic transmission problem 190e

i have recently put a replacement engine in my 190e, everything is running ok but it will not go into any gear on the automatic box. It is selecting reverse ok because the reversing lights ar coming on but it wont move, it wont select any gear. I managed to drive it out of the garage once i put the engine in but it wont locate a gear now. any ideas....transmission fluid seems ok, do they suffer any airlocks or do they need bleeding?

You could have damaged the oil pump if, the torque converter was installed wrong or it move out of the pump when the motor was installed. Install a pressure gauge and check the pressures.

Is the vacuum modulator installed and have the cap on and sealed? Does it have vacuum going to it? Not sure how these trannies act without that vacuum but it is worth a check. I do know that the modulator cap has to be on and the seal good on it.
