190E 2.3 16V A warning light has come on that says ASD. Car seems to be running fine. What does this light signify? Can't find anything in manual. Thanks for any help.

Wow! I have not seen any 16's with ASD. Most came with a limited slip differential.

Anyway, when the computer sees too much wheel spin from one side, it will lock up the diff so both tires will turn together. This system is inoperational if the light is on.

My 1991 SDL just had ASD light come on and stay on ... were you able to troubleshoot yours? Is there a common failure mode for these ...?

The light on my dash went off and since then has not come back on.....I would however like to know if there is something I should check in the differential for wear.

Only advice I have received it that it could be in the accumulator. I have not torn mine down, yet. Was looking for "I've been there" stories that might make me a bit more certain.
