gauges quit

Tonight, my gauges quit on my 95 C280...the speedometer and tachometer just quit out of the blue....then while driving about a block down the road it started working again...it's like it's sticking....I can be doing 40, it will say 0, then it will jump up to the correct speed...loose connection or wire?
