need some help, quick! w126 B2 piston replacement

im replacing the B2 piston in my 85 300SD....im almost done, and have gotten everything back into the tranny....ive run into a problem though...ill run down exactly what i did first then tell what the problem is.....

pulled everything out...
replaced metal sleeve with new white plastic one...
pushed new black bushing in to where the old one was, pretty much flush with the metal surrounding it...
replaced the large O-ring that seals cover...
put in the new B2 piston...
put the cover on and pushed in so i could put the C-clip back on....

when i pushed in on the cover, it went in just like it did when i was removing the old piston, only it didnt spring back out...its stuck pushed in...i can see the O-ring seal, and the cover is about a quarter inch in from the C-clip....is this normal? will it pop back out once the B2 piston is engaged, putting pressure on the cover? i just need to know whether this is right or not, and quickly! thanks very much

Tap variously around the cover and it should pop out. You did put the spring back in?

i didnt know i was supposed to put a spring back in....the only ones that came out was a small tapered spring that wouldnt have enough tension to push that cover back out and hold it...and the big spring that was in the old piston....thats all that came out with it, other than all the other solid pieces of the piston and the seals and bushings....this is exactly what i put back in...

tried tapping on the cover, nothing happened....i took the cover off, and pulled the piston out just to check and make sure i put the bushing and seal in properly....everything looks just as it did when i pulled the original out, with the exception of the piston being in 5 or 6 pieces....

I guess I was thinking of the B1 servo spring. Been a long time since I personally installed one. I would think there would be some pressure on the cap.

What provision have you made to insure that part # 334 properly engages the band socket?

aha! that was the problem....that pesky little # 334 had fallen into the pan whenever i pulled the piston out....i wasnt bright enough to see the little socket inside and the one on the piston itself....when i first saw that piece i thought it was just something that came out of the broken piston....im all back together now, and the cover pops back out just like it should....im about to top it off and see what happens....thanks so much for the help, Steve
