Gilly,
If you could come up with the kit # that would be a great help--the dealer is as helpful as T_ _ s are on a boar hog.
Thank you.

PS--I have replaced all bulbs except for the license plate bulbs--can you tell me how to get at them?? I have tried from the exterior of car by removing the 3 philips screws on the painted bar around the two bulb hloders BUT I cannot remove the plastic bulb holders themselves--afraid to force them.

I can try, 10-4 on the T-T's. All a matter of remembering to call.
Do you have Xenon headlights or not? Makes a difference I think, they have new headlight bulbs in the kit for some odd reason if you have the normal halogens, may be cheaper at this point to go with the Xenon kit, it's a cheaper kit. I can ask him for the affected vin range for this kit, too.
Did you replace the bulbs using what MB sells, or not?
Probably the easiest way to get to the license palte bulbs is by removing the trunk lid trim and just "deal" with it (may get scraped up a tad from rough edges), you can reach them easy enough, if I can do it with my chubby little arms you should be able to.

OK, I called him!
Date of the bulletin I have in mind is P-SI-MBNA-82/109. Date is Aug 1998, so should apply to your car. It'd be worth checking it out. Part number for the kits (should require only 1 per vehicle I believe):
Non-Xenon=210-540-55-33
w/Xenon=210-540-56-33 (Only difference is you don't get new headlamp bulbs with the Xenon kit, not sure what the difference is with the new headlamp bulbs)

There is another bulletin concerning the melting rear bulb plates:
DTB 12/97-2 MBNET 517, but this is dated 12/97, so don't know if it affects a 98 or not. There is no new part number associated with this bulletin, they say all new parts ordered will be the updated style.
