Brake Bleeding .. 97 C230 K

Hi Guys

I need to flush out the old brake fluid on my pride and joy and would hate to "break" something in the process. I have been through the threads discussing this and am well aware of the two sections in the reservoir and that the brake pedal should not be depressed fully when using the 2-man method. I donot have a bleeder so that is out of the question.

I have read on a few threads on this forum about using gravity feed to bleed/flush the system. Is this method safe and will it work on the 97 C230 K which has got anti-lock braking but no tractions control stuff .. I'd rather go for a time consuming method of doing this as long as I know that I wont damage anything in the process !!

I have a 97 C230 and recently flushed/bled my brake system using the two person "pumper" "Bleeder" technique.

Did not experience any ill-effects

The two man method shouldn't break anything as long as it is done properly. I believe you can get a bleeder for not too much $$$, it may be worth it for the easiness.

The 2 man method works well. Just be gentle with the bleed screws.

I have often used a one-man bleeding system by using a length of hose on the bleeder screw, cracking open the bleeder screw just a bit, and pumping away at the pedal. There's enough forward action to move the fluid out, yet enough resistance to keep the fluid out during the return stroke. Done right, I get the fluid flushed and a firm pedal.
