Stripped Valve Cover......
Ok here is the sad story. 95/C280
I noticed a oil slight leak at the rear of my valve cover, not a lot but enough to drip down and cause a little smoke after a highway drive. So I changed the Valve Cover Gasket and noticed that TWO of the bolts that secure the cover were quite easy to remove...???? Upon inspection I noticed that there were a few tiny pieces of metal in the screw threads. The bolts themselves were not damaged but I think/know the threads inside the block must have some damage from over tightening at some point.. The fact that I can't tighten the bolts at all lead me to the conclusion that this is why there is still oil seeping from the VCG area after the old highway drive... At any reate I need to fix this, can anyone assist....? Any help or advise would make me a happy man!!! PLEASE!!! |

If the threads are really gone:
1. Drill & tap for a larger bolt. 2. Install a Helicoil insert. If you are not a brave or experienced DIY, a good mechanic can do this for you. Best Regards, Jim |

Helicoil. DIY. Easy. I had the same thing happen on one of my bolts that holds a coil down.

Probably M6, but take a bolt in and make sure.
