190e Reset computer to turn off engine light

Hello, I have a 1992 190e 2.6 litre. My check engine light is on, I am taking the car to a mechanic to check the codes to find the problem. I'm guessing it's the oxygen sensor. To save money I am then going to change the sensor myself, or do any other repair to fix the diagnosed problem.
The tech tells me that once fixed the light won't then just go off , he say's the computer has to be reset. He tells me it'll cost $50.00, I'm not against a mech making some money, I just don't have it..
Is it a simple process to reset a computer? If so would someone kindly advise me on how to perform this, thank you. Mike

reset with battery

To all you out there wondering about resetting the ecu/computer, if it won't or will by disconnecting the battery. I'm here to tell you I just reset it by disconnecting both terminals, and then with both disconnected I touched the positive terminal 3 times waiting one second in between and then re-applied both. The ignition was completely in the off position the whole time, and I waited 30 seconds before touching the positive 3 times. I read this action on another discussion sight and it worked for me, hope it helps someone else. Mike

Usually all you have to do is disconnect the battery for at least 30 seconds. Error codes are stored in volatile memory, so once they loose power, the codes are lost. The rest is just a useless ritual.
