Help - Are These Injectors The Same?

Hi All,

I ordered a new set of fuel injectors for my 1988 560SL. The injectors I received are stamped with the Bosch number 0 437 502 054. The old injectors are stamped 0 437 502 035. The vendor says the 054 parts correspond to MB part #000 078 5823 which is the current part number for these injectors but when I called Bosch they said the 054 parts were used after 1990 while the 035 were used prior to 11/90 and said they still make both. Does anyone know whether the injectors are really interchangeable or not??? When I enter the MB part number into Fastlane's DB I get the same item number I received from the internet vendor I ordered from, so it looks like they also send the 054 injector to replace the 035.

Before I install them I would like to know the truth!

Thanks,

Marty

My guess would be that your old injectors are made of steel and the replacement parts are made of brass. The part number you listed fits both the early and later model 560 engines. The brass injectors are the better of the two.

Yes, now that I look closely the old ones do appear to be steel. They were very dirty and darkened and I could not tell whether they were brass or not until you mentioned it and I scratched the surface.

I'm relieved to hear these are the correct injectors so tomorrow when I install them (along with all new seals, holders and air lines) I hope to have my little engine running again!

PS - The prices of these has gone crazy over the past few months. In the fall, when I was looking I could get them for $25 each. Now, the cheapest I could find was $37 and most places charge $50 or more. I guess the weak dollar has hit Bosch and they have resorted to dramatic price increases.
