Thx for the info, unfortunatly it appears "to me" that it is the HG that has failed. The engine has oil BELOW the HG area and it it totally clean above it. I replaced the valve cover gasket a few weeks ago. The oil is sitting on TOP of the bell housing of the tranny that is where the smoke is coming from ONLY there... Strange thing is I ONLY get the leak if I go 75-80 or more on the highway at 65-70 no smoke.. Its just oil though I get no antifreeze in it.

This is strange... I live in Las Vegas anyone here had this done? How much was it to get the HG fixed CUZ I AINT DOING IT!

Thx!

Ths cloth is removed as well and it was clean too....

I have a question, did you put those little half circle seals back in the rear of the valve cover area? There are two of them and they fit right behind the cams under the seal. If they are not there you would get lots of oil flying back there especially at high speed. Just a thought.

Actually, yes I did. Funny you mention that, I thought that, that was the cause of the problem. I did a diag with a clean white cloth pressed up against that area and the fire wall and after dirving the highway that cloth was CLEAN and there was still smoke and oil so the oil is fall from an area LOWER than the valve cover (ahh if it had only caught fire, huummmm).

I really thought/hoped that, that was the culprit!! But my friend, I dont have that kind of luck...... Franks Mercedes in Las Vegas said between 1400-1500 to do the job.. He also mentioned the rear main is sometimes a problem as well.

All I can say is fit it is BOTH the car is gone.... 2200+ to fix it.. I'll just buy a new/used car
