380SE What MPG do you get?

I now have my car I think runs perfect after alot of set backs and lots of searchs the car runs GREAT. But my mpg is awful. It is only getting 13 in city and 17 on the road. That is 75 and 80 though. But my 420sel way bigger car gets 18 and 23 with the same type of driving. I guess the rear gear ratio is getting me because the 380 is very fast out of the hole. I do know that it uses 1st gear all of the time. I did not think that would eat that much gas. Thanks Alan

The second gear start off was done for the specific purpose of increasing fuel economy. Also, I dare say that the 420SEL's fuel delivery system and engine are more advanced and efficient than the 380SE.

Gas mileage

My 85 380se has 204k. I've only had it for a couple of weeks. Just replaced plugs, wires and all that stuff. I just checked my mileage and was pleasantly surprised! 202 miles on 10.3 gals. That works out to 19.6 mpg! That's combination city and highway driving. 70-85 on the highway trying to work the bugs out. This car has been sitting for two years and has an idle control problem. Hopefully with the idle fixed and a new fuel filter it'll get even better. I love these cars!! Have you had a tune-up lately? Also check for dragging brake, I had one binding on the right rear That'll suck up some gas!! Good luck.
