Strange idle

When I started my car, the idle stayed on idle about 600-700 (normal ) for about 10 seconds. It went down to rough idle at 500 for about 5 seconds and then went up to about 900 for a few seonds. All after that, It stayed on about 600-700 again and without further problem. What happened?? Thanks.

HEY Kid any luck with the surging idle mine does the same 300 CE 1989
