1992 SL500 - CD Changer Jammed

New to the forum ....

I have a 1992 SL500
Becker CD Changer makes "whirling" sound and will not operate. I've been having a tough time finding a changer that would be compatible. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong? Any additional feedback as to possible replacements would be extremely helpful

I am going to make a couple of assumptions here. Judging by the year model I am assuming your Becker CD changer is the same as in my 300TE ("Silverstone 2630" from memory connected to a "Grand Prix 2140" head unit - see attached images). Mine occasionally "jams" and will not play CDs. When I purchased the car the changer had 10 discs in the magazine and one still in the "play" position within the changer pressumably as a result of the problem. I found it necessary to dismantle the changer to remove the 11th disc but have subsequently found that on the occasions when the changer jams, I can disconnect the power supply to it (disconnect the control cable) and it will reset itself when the power is reconnected.

As for compatibility, I have found the Becker appears to be identical to other 10 CD changers of a similar age including the Eurovox unit in my 190E. They share the same disc magazine which is convenient, however the Becker uses separate left and right channel RCA connectors and a separate multi-pin control plug. The Eurovox uses a single 13 pin DIN connector which is identical to Sony changers I have seen. I believe these changers may have all been manufactured by Sony. It is possible that with the necessary adaptor cable that one of these alternative branded units may work. Others or an automotive sound equipment supplier may be able to give further advice.

Thanks for your comments, they're much obliged. The Becker model is the 0980. I've tried to take it apart & change the fuse to no avail. Would you happen to know what aftermarket changer would be compatible with this 0980?
