transmission issue
Hi, I have a 1987 Mercedes 300E. It has a newly rebuilt transmission. However when i put the car into drive or reverse it jerks considerably. The transmission seems fine while driving. Also sometimes when the car is put in reverse it jerks signficantly and seems to want to back up a little faster than usual. Any ideas what this may be? Thank you.

Have you checked your flex disk?

Yes, the flex disk could be one possibility and the front one usually goes first. You can raise the car and shake the flex disks and carrier bearing. Also check the differential mounts that mount the rear of the differential to the cross member subframe.
Hope this helps, |

both my 86 and 87 300E have this tendency, just make sure your at a complete stop before going in reverse and as long as the shifting is OK in the forward gears I would not worry about it.
