380 sl start problems

My 82 380 sl stopped abruptly 4 times after driving about 20 miles. It immediately restarted the first 3 times and now will not start at all.
I suspect the fuel pump relay. Any suggestions for testing this. The engine will turn over but not fire. I can smell gas after pumping the petal.
Thanks for any help

It's likely the fuel pump relay, especially if it's after the car was running and heated up. This is a pretty standard problem for these engines. There is no easy DIY test for this that I know of, just replace the relay.

A pressure test is fairly straight forward although it does require $50.00 test gage.
