Relays for this no longer available?

The relays mentioned in this procedure (514AU8 Crime Guard AU 8 40-amp relay) is no longer available from Crutchfield - has anyone found another source for them, or a substitute that is known to work? Ditto the vacuum interface he mentions (514DLSV Crime Guard DLSV Vacuum interface). I picked up a REC 11 cheap ($30) and would like to install in my 300E. Thanks

Never mind, I answered my own question. Found this universal adapter by omega (which makes the crime guard, I believe) that incorporates the 2 relays and vacuum interface in one unit:

That's pretty pricey. Nowadays you can get remote keyless entry systems with integrated relays, that will work perfectly on an older MB's vaccum locks for less than $40 on eBay.

Hmm... what about remote start with an integrated glow plug warmup feature? I could definitely go for that.

E420 Questions...

So, I am getting a 1994 E420 from my in-laws. It's in sweet condition, but I *GOTTA* have keyless entry. After driving cars for the last 10 years that had keyless entry, using the key to open/close a door is requiring a painful reconfiguration of my neural pathways and honestly I don't want to waste a re-mapping just on this...

I've read this thread and another thread on BenzWorld and while I have no doubt I can do the install, I'm concerned about the discrepancies in what works and what doesn't, etc.

Has anyone installed a keyless remote in a 1994 E420 and can you share your exact instructions? I also would love brand recommendations, etc. I know the Crutchfield system is $70 or so, I'd be willing to spend more if I got more things like closing of windows/sunroof on lock and opening of windows/sunroof on unlock with certain button presses, etc. I'm also not 100% sure if the E420 comes with an alarm...Is that a stardard thing? If it doesn't I'd probably consider getting an alarm system. I also would like to have the lights flash when it is unlocked or locked.

Lastly...How long does the install take? If it's going to take me more than 3 horus I'll probably just pay to have it installed...

Thanks.

Thanks.

So this unit doesn't need any extra relays, etc.?

What about http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150190729685&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005 ?

Is there a way to hook this Omega one up using the "trunk method" (no relays - just trick the car into thinking someone turned the trunk key) in my '92 190E? I'd LOVE to get keyless entry in my car! I've hooked up numerous car stereos in the past, but the method mentioned at the beginning of this thread seems REALLY complicated. I just can't follow the instructions. ALL I NEED is lock/unlock. I don't need flashing lights, alarm control, etc. The trunk method (no relays) looks the most promising

Oh yeah.... THANKS BSTREEP!!!!!!!

Okay experts ... in reference to the $50 keyless entry kit Texholdem pointed to in post #67 above, the seller emailed me and said that no relays or other extra parts were needed to connect this to my '92 190E.
Could someone look at it this wiring/instructions page for this system ( http://stores.ebay.com/StealMyCar/Manuals.html ) and tell me how to hook it up to my car? Thanks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!!!!!!!

I've been researching more about this topic... is it true that basically you have 1 wire (blue on driver's door, green on passenger door and yellow on trunk) that either needs to be "feed" 12v to unlock the doors or needs to be shunted to ground to unlock the doors?

Keyless

Hey man,
On W124s operating the trunk lock opens all other doors and vice verse. So if you power the trunk loch (Same as operating the lock with a key) via a regular FM receiver (Remote) you should be able to remotely unlock and lock the car, a lot simpler than removing the seat and screwing around with vac units. Granted you have done it and that's great, but if you ever need to do it again this is an easier way.
Happy holidays

im planning on adding a keyless entry and this seems like the simplest way.

Can you give more details on how to do it please?

and can you make it so the parking lights flash when the locks open and close?
