Water in passenger side foot pan

I have a 87 300E that is a wonderful car. I had the car painted last November. The car has no rust. This winter i noted that the passenger side carpet was wet and when I lifted the carpet and floor insert it was socked and a inch of water was on the floor. It comes in through the wire opening in the door postinto the floor pan. I talked to a person who seems to know the type.....scrap yard owner, as I had covered holes that were missing plugs on the rocker. Anyway he sait that he thought that the sun roof drain was the sorce of the water. I never would have thought of that. Is this possible? I have dumped a ton of water on the wind screen thinking it was a drain dumping into the car....nothing. Plugged rocker. Still got water. Is this sunroof drain a possiblity. It is so much that I drilled two temp. holes in the pan to let the water out as it has made it back to the door lock pump. Sorry so long winded.
