Condenser Fan Switch?
Hey guys,
Well, my radiator fan crapped out, and I have yet to find a suitable replacement (1984 300D). Living in Edmonton, this isn't much of an issue (we're still getting snow), and she hasn't run any hotter than usual. However, I'm about to head to the mountains, and I know that I'll be climbing some pretty steep passes which will undoubtedly cause a spike in the temperature. MY QUESTION: Is there some way that I can activate the fan on the A/C condenser (which sits in front of the rad) despite the fact that my A/C is currently disabled? The fan is an electric auxilliary fan, so I figure there must be some way to get it to run. This may shave some degrees of the motor during the climbs. Thanks in advance, BioBenz 300D on B20 |

Find the a/c dryer, it is behind the headlights on the passanger side i think in a 123. Then pull the wires off of the temp switch on the dryer and connect them together when you turn the key on the fan should come on. If it works just rig up a switch so you can turn it on and off.

almost worked
Thanks for the help by the way...
So, I located the dryer and used a volt meter to see which wires were hot (there were 2 sets). When I bridge the 2 together, I hear a click from a solenoid on the drivers side, closer to the firewall. However, the fan doesn't turn on. Any ideas? -biobenz |

Yes, but I thought that you said that the fan is shot. There are two switches on the filter drier. One is the low pressure switch that cuts out the compressor clutch when refrigerant is low, the other operates the aux. fan.
You should not need the aux fan for your climb. It is only there to bring down the high side pressure when driving in traffic on a hot day. Good luck, |

Try the other switch, you wont hurt anything by jumping out the switch. I think the temp switch has brown wires.
Larry, i think he is just looking for any more air flow that he can get, dont know if will help or not but it cant hurt. I am assuming that he took the clutch fan off so it wont end up in the radiator. I just did the same thing on my td and am planing a dual 10" electric convertion b4 the weather gets to hot.
