Crazy idea: 500E fuel tank in other 124s?
Greetings ShopForum,
Sounds like a non-sequitur question, but I assure you it is not... Hopefully have a rear differential swap in the near future of my 95 E420. I am not as much concerned about loss of fuel economy as loss of range. This crazy idea hit me one day: Find a larger fuel tank from another W124, and enjoy roughly the same highway cruising range as before. The 500E made up for the economy hit with a larger fuel tank -- 90L/23.5 gal versus 70L/18.5 gal in the 400E. (Part # for the 500E tank is A 124 470 95 01, compared to # A 124 470 03 04) Has anyone installed the larger fuel tank in their .034/other W124? Does anyone know whether it would even fit a regular (not widebody) 124? Thanks in advance, -DM
