Just so you know, those inline engines with plugs right down the middle are notorious for going into limp mode if they get wet. If the computer senses any kind of arcing (because of water or anything) it shuts it down to about half the cylinders. Whenever I wash my engine I always keep the cover in place and try not to ever get any amount of water on the top of the engine.
After it dries out you can disconnect the negative terminal and re-connect to turn off your CEL light.
