Question Oil Pressure irregularities

Hi everyone,

It's been awhile since I've been back on this site however, I need help with a '86 190E 2.3-16V. Basically, when the car is at idle the oil pressure gauge bounces around from a 1-3 bar. Only when I'm driving or when I press the accelerator in Neutral will the oil pressure stay at 3 bar. I know that the regular 190E's oil pressure will drop when the crank is not turning as fast as with most other cars however, the 16V model should remain at 3 bar. It only started doing this recently......please help....thank you.

First try inspecting, cleaning, and cycling the connector on the oil pressure sending unit. If that doesn't work, replace the sending unit.

As cars age, connector problems - dirt, corrosion, cumulative stress, etc, can cause intermittent electrical faults, particularly on non-balance shaft inline fours, because the second order unbalanced vertical shaking force beats the hell out of everything attached to the engine and can actually cause connectors to wear!

My Cosworth Vega has consumed two oil pressure sending units, the spades on two voltage regulators and two sets of voltage regulator terminals on the engine harness eventhough the alternaltor is isolation mounted in rubber bushings.

On my six it's below the oil filter attached to the oil filter adaptor housing - probably a similar location on you engine.

Ah hah,

I fixed it a couple days ago....when I put the turbo kit in I had to tap into that part of the oil system to put the oil feed line for the turbo. Well, the kit I used (Mosselman) uses a steel braided hose and it was pinching the little oil pressure sensor hose against the oil filter housing. A little re-routing and presto. I'm just glad it was a cheap fixer. Thanks again Duke.

Much appreciated.
