How do I get these seats out? '77 w123

well i have my pool noodles, I have polyester filling and new seat springs.
I would like to rebuild my front seats, but I can't get them out.

I have read the w123 manuals and the haynes manual, which state the exact same thing.

There must be a trick. how do you get the "slide rail" out and what is the difference between a "slide rail" and a "guide rail".

I remove the philips head screw in the rear, inside the slide rail, but nothing is budging. the very bottom back screw that holds the frame in the rear, has a non hex nut (it looks like a thread sleeve welded to the seat frame). you have to unscrew that from the bottom.

The instructions say "remove slide rail screw in rear and remove slide rail"

can anybody help me?

any help is appreciated.

123 Seat Removal

Be sure you move the seat all the way forward and then take a good look and see what you can find at the rear of the seat, should be a couple bolts, one on each side...remove them and then slide the seat all the way back...then do the front bolts...there are 2 different rails in some 123's..one rail lets the seat slide forward and backwards and the handle is in front of the seat next to the console and the other rail has a handle that is on the side of the seat near the door and you pull it up and then you can move the seat forward or backward and the seat will elevate...goodluck...Jim

i have pics of my seat

I uploaded some pics of my rear seat frame

http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=viewall&albumID=318395900

does this look like your seats?

here is the problem, I see the bottom bolts , but the nuts are not nuts but thread sleeves. also underneath the seat is another philips head screw about miday down the track that is holding the slide rail in. It seems impossible to get too. I see no 10mm hex head anywhere

I have pulled the seat forward using both handles and all my weight, it is butted up against the stop. The side handle doesnt seem to do too much. there is no vertical action on the seat.

this is a 1977. and based on other forum threads, the rear bolts do not seem to match the later versions

I got them out

well it is as easy as they say.

I had to had my wife pull up on the side handle hard while i kicked the seat forward from the rear. At first it wouldn't go and then on the last kick it moved up several inches and exposed the 10mm bolt that holds the whole frame down.

So it does only take about 5 min.

i took pics of the whole thing, so I will post them after I replace the horse hair with polyester filling and pool noodles.

thanks again, a victory so far.
