W208 2000 CLK430 Conv. top wont unlock from back

I have a 2000 CLK convertible and cant get the top down. When I unlock the handle at the front to put the top down, the windows roll down but when I pull the switch on the console to lower the top, it seems that the top wont unlock itself from the trunk lid. It sounds like it wants to but wont. Any Ideas?

It may sound a little flippant, but make sure you check/recheck the owners manual on preconditions for the top to operate. A few things I can think of is I believe the handle in front has to be put back the the folded position, there is a cover in the trunk that I believe needs to be closed (may be wrong), the trunk has to be closed, the roll bar has to be lowered.

Indicator lamp

Is the indicator lamp blinking and if so does it blink slowly or rapidly? Rapid blinking indicates a problem with the trunk lid or luggage cover(possibly not closed properly?) and slow blinking indicates a general malfunction within the system. Gilly had a good suggestion about checking to make sure the unlocking mechanism was folded up after top was opened and extended upward for 20cm(important to push front of top up before operating switch). I had a recent problem lowering my top at a stop light when I drifted forward at maybe 1/2 MPH and the top stopped in the middle of opening. I had to stop, put car in park, turn key off/on and operate the switch. It worked after that. Good luck.
