Here is how I did it with my car after some major work on it was done.

I warmed it up, and when everything was cool, I accelerated at about 50% throttle, and I asked myself, "what would be the best rpm range for my car to shift", once I figured what the range was, I tried adjusting the cable 1 turn at a time in the respective direction. When I found the perfect spot for 2-3 shift which is most frequently used in city driving, I then took it on a longer drive down the highway. I floored it to see how it reacts and amazingly, everything was fine, as soon as it reached the red line, it shifted, not before and not after. That's how I left it ever since, I'm considering making some fine tuning to it some time soon, but that's the procedure
