Question help

LAST NIGHT MY SON AND I WERE DOING OIL CHANGE ETC. (WE JUST BOUGHTTHIS 83 240d) we started it up then when went to shut it off. it just kept running i did find a lever that had stop on it must be a manual fuel shut off. i did find out it might be a vacum problem broken line etc. it was getting dark but i did see a small 1/8 line that was going up to the dash so im thinking we broke this when we changed the oil filter does any body know where that small line would go thanks for your help

I think a diesel does shut off with vacuum. Repair the hose if you broke it. If it is a plastic line use a piece of rubber hose to patch it, if it is a rubber on, use a plastic hose piece to link them together. If you pulled the hose out of the firewall then you need to get up under the dash and see where it is connected, my guess would be near the ignition switch somewhere, but if you post on the diesel forum those guys will know more than me!
Good luck!
Brian

You probably broke the vacuum line that's close to the filter canister. Easy fix with some rubber hose to join the two broken plastic pieces.

There is one vacuum line which goes through the firewall to the underdash area which is a vent line, not connected to anything. I don't remember what color it is but maybe somebody else remembers. More likely you dislodged a vacuum line from a rubber junction in the area near the oil filter somewhere. If you can't locate the open line, maybe you could post a picture of that area.
