W126 Gear box (>1989 vs. <1989) size

I am thinking of getting one of those Euro gear boxes with the sport/economy switch and using the switch for a first gear start. However, I noticed a change in size of this box. Can anyone confirm this for me? I would like to use a Euro gear box from a 1986 560 in place of my 1990 560. Any help would be helpful. thanks
