Intermitant Soft Brake Pedal

I need some help diagnosing a problem with my brakes - the problem is intermitant, some times the brake pedal is very soft and other times it's all there. Particulars - 1992 500e, new rotors and pads, complete brake fluid flush. Is the problem the master cylinder, the brake booster or the inline check valve to the brake booster.

Thanks for the help.

Now when its soft are we talking soft in that the pedal will sink to the floor..if so please get a new Master cylinder post haste....if its the booster not working it would get very hard...not very soft.

We're talking soft to the floor. Imagine starting off with it being there and then . . .

Soft to the floor is a definate bad Master Cylinder.....I am assuming the brakes have been properly bled....if so then its too dangerous to drive as-is....the next time they may loose all effect and trust me the Emergency brake is not going to do much to stop you when you need to stop the most.

Consider what Ridge had to say in this thread:

Brake Pedal to Floor after bleeding

If the spongy pedal came along AFTER all the work was done, it's not likely that you suddenly developed a faulty mst. cyl.
