The manual for my 1991 350SDL says my engine is equipped with a block heater. Can anyone tell me how to wire it up or is this a dealer item? Thanks
fred

Have you looked for the cord (male end) under the front bumper (passenger side)? At least thats where they used to keep them in the eighties. Take a look-see

Two places they are located is around the radiator, a male end plug, and on the earlier ones, its around the grille area in front around the auxillary fans (a male end plug).

I dont know if they are standard or if they are a dealer option. Two of the three diesels I have have a block heater. I guess it kind of depends on the area that the car was purchased. If it was in the northern US it will have one, if its in FL or some other warm place, then it might not.

You can always give the dealer the VIN and have them check the options for you.

It is very possible that you have the block heater, but not the cable. The cable is a standard item, and I'm sure that the parts shop can get you one.

Look on the block, probably behind the exhaust manifold for the heater, if it's there with no cable, just add the cable and you'll be all set. The block heater will be a rectangular, two pin electrical connector and it will appear that there is a hex pipe bushing around it.

Good luck,
