85 380SL Rebuild existing transmission or buy reconditioned?
The garage has just called to say the transmission in my 1985 380SL needs rebuilding @ approx $2000. (170,000 miles)
Any opinions or advice on whether to get the old one rebuilt or look for an already reconditioned one? Is there anything else that should be dealt with while the transmission is out? And I thought it was just going to be an adjustment ![]() |

It depends how well they are going to rebuild it. Sometimes you have a better chance of success with one from one of the proven rebuilders and have it installed.
