Start by checking all fuses and pray that you haven't blown a control module.....

Guaranteed ECU blown. Most prolly the top control ECU too.

You can get them checked out/repaired at Beckmann Technologies.
If you call them on Monday...talk to Robert and tell him what you did...take his advice.

http://www.beckmanntechnologies.com/index.html

Now your going to have to repair it, why not go the whole way and do some thing like this......click on the SLK.....

Usually in the trunk above the battery.
...or ask Beckmann.

The engine control unit is located in the relay/ fuse box next to the battery.

Sorry.. .the last SLK I worked on, battery was in trunk next to right wheel well in a battery well...my customer had shorted the + to the body and fritzed the 'top controller'......and top control module was against the 'B' pillar, right side, above the battery.

We are talking about a Mercedes , yes ?

OK disregard all of that crap -

The "Top controller" is called a PSE module. You're confusing us.

Hey Ibis, check your crash relay, they're famous for going bad anyway on the SLK's. And I don't think the M.E. or ECU is connector direct to the battery anyway, so don't wory about it yet, check that relay first, and you very well may need to start with a new batery now.

.........Well ! Excuuuuuse me ! Sorry I don't fit your perception of what the world should be....

We are often posting to people who are not tech's or knowledgeable about the finer points of auto maintenance......and do not know what ...BFFS...AFFS ....ESP and P0562 etc, means....

When someone offers help to you, I hope you are a little more gracious.
Your off hand abrasive attitude is not what we have tried to cultivate here...
Trashing 'anyone' who offers assistance is considered arrogant and discourteous.

If you have input that is more accurate, offer it. Your 'attitude' is duly noted.

Let's hope it changes.

Sorry, didn't realize you're so sensative.

But honestly, a lot of people coming here would see your name with "senior member" below it and think that automatically means you know what you're talking about.

And then for you to say "GUARANTEED", that's just not right. Someone actaully might be naive enough to go right out and buy one. Or go to a parts supplier and ask, "can I get a new top controller for my SLK".

Did you read the persons response? He was actually going to remove the PSE and send it out to be fixed. How much money and time would that have cost him?

BACK ON SUBJECT.

Hey Ibis, under the hood there is a black plastic cover right in front of the pass. seat. unscrew the phillips screws and remove the cover (don't worry about the circular cover with 13mm nut) check the fuses in there.
That is where your ECU is.

Is this your attempt at an apology?

If YOU read MY reply, you will notice this :You can get them checked out/repaired at Beckmann Technologies.
If you call them on Monday...talk to Robert and tell him what you did...take his advice

Robert does not usually charge for ECU's that are undamaged...His only outlay most like would be his time and mailing...this would be helpful too, as Robert would tell him if the ECU's where serviceable....or did that escape your notice ?

It is YOU telling him to get ".....and you very well may need to start with a new batery now........" (Your spelling too !)

I am often mistaken, and admit my take was incorrect....I am not, as you suggest...."..... didn't realize you're so sensative...." (Your spelling again !)

It was a '95/6 SL that I had repaired ...for the reversed polarity...and it HAD taken out the ECU and ''Top Controller." .... along with the anti-theft unit........

You side-stepped the 'BFFS' and 'AFFS' real neatly, I noticed ! Didn't pick up on my mistake I see....

What I meant was AFSS and BFSS, though.....opps. Sorry

'Senior Member' has no meaning, apart from the time I have subscribed to this board.

And another thing...being as you seem enamored with superlatives....

How do you think the ECU operates if it is not connected to the battery...

If it was KOEO this would shunt the electrics....and even with KOCL it would damage other components....Or have you suspended the laws of physics in your part of the universe ?

My abject apologies to IBIS... the author of this thread for the hijacking....
