Mercedes 500E

Hi,

My husband is absolutely crazy about Mercedes 500E. I don't know
anything about cars so I was wandering if some of you knew some really good books about Mercedes 500E or about Mercedes W124 that I could offer him before actually buying THE car. Thanks in advance.

I think he should cut his teeth on a 300e and learn the 124's intracacies.

Nah... go for it.... if it's what he wants and you can afford it, no problem.

If he can work on the car himself, it's an easy answer. A bit more difficult if he's the type who has to run to the dealer and get a 700 dollar alternator instead of a DIY 20 dollar voltage regulator.

The real answer to your questions is type "500e" in the search mode and read every post by the thoughtful people here. Print them out, and let your husband read them.

No worries for the repairs... He has never been to a garage in his life and he does everything on his own and moreover he loves that, so maybe I was thinking about a manual about W124 or more specifically about 500E if that exists.
I'll have a look through all the threads that have already been posted anyway.

Try the "124 Owners Bible". It should give you some good info on all the 124 models.

Thanks a lot Benzboy87. I am really happy to finally find a present that he will really like !!! It will vary from the FHM magazines that I generally end up buying out of despair
I've just found it on Amazon. Thanks again !

There are a number of cars for sale around the country.

The most comprehensive resource for these cars on the Internet is at www.500e.com which has great archives and information specializing in these cars.

The 500E is a great all-around performance car that more than holds its own against 90% of today's cars, even the so-called "AMG" models. It has less electronics and modularity, and higher build quality, than today's cars.

More importantly, though, is that it's a practical performance car. It isn't particularly demanding to maintain, though moreso than a run-of-the-mill 124. The value and bang for the buck are quite high. Many many owners of newer "AMG E55" E-class successors who have owned the 500E in the past, will tell you that they prefer the older car, and either intend or have already purchased another 500E after selling their E55.

Best advice is to go to the mecca for these cars, and that is www.500e.com

This site's threads on the topic are also quite a gold-mine and are probably even better suited for the POTENTIAL buyer. www.500E.com is more suited for the CURRENT OWNER.

Cheers,
Gerry
