what is this on my plugs?
anyone know what causes the brown caramel like substance on the ceramic portion of the spark plug as shown in the picture?
The substance will scrape off. My spark plug wells were nice and clean when I removed the plugs. I saw nothing that revealed a coolant or oil leak? Scott 1998 C-230 75Kmiles on car 40K miles on spark plugs |

That is blow-by on that plug. Small leak between the ceramic insulator and the surrounding metal.

Quite normal.
I see that on my plugs, when I change them at 30 k miles.
