VIN Decoder website??

Does anyone know of a website that will decode an MB VIN number and give you a "build sheet" for your car? This would be very helpful, not just to myself with my '92 300E, but to all MB owners.

It would be helpful but only MB has the info and it seems unlikely they are gonig to do it for free.

Of course any decent MB tech would provide it to his clients, as necessary, a gratis. There are some benefits to dealing with professionals.

But the VIN doesn't give you a "build sheet". The production data card is available only at the factory.

The data card minus key info and radio codes is available on all EPCs.

thanks!

Just wanted to thank everyone who responded with comments, etc. I see in the Star mag. that DB now can supply build sheets for older Benzes, maybe someday they'll make these available to all owners.

I seem to recall coming across a Russian web site that had an online MB VIN decoder but it only worked for Euro VINs, which have a different format from U.S. models. I'll see if I can find the site and post it.

The -> VEHICLEIDENTIFICATIONNUM site mentioned above shows my 300SEL as being a 300SDL.

Talking Try this

Try this:

http://www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

It's the Mercedes Club of Russia site. If you want to see the kind of results it returns, try this VIN: WDB1260391A527709. Pretty impressive, really. A lot of work went into that site, although it does not seem to cover all models and doesn't seem to work yet on cars made for the American market.

You might need to make a donation to get them to finish it.

what's the V.I.N. of your '92-300E? I was able to get the

build info for my SL500 from the Russian site by substitut-

ing a couple of numbers.

Hey! Thats MY vin!
Only problem is that it states it as a 1989... in reality its a 1990 with build date of 1/1990.

Oops, sorry

I got it off of an old post where I found the link. I would have used mine but it doesn't work. At least I couldn't figure it out. I tried to convert it to a euro VIN but I still couldn't get it to work.

MB Russian build codes

Once you access www.mbclub.ru/mb/vin you must enter the appropriate "CHASSIS" number. This is NOT the U.S. V.I.N. Example: on my 1999 SL500 the U.S. V.I.N. is
WDBFA68F9Xxxxxxxx. The correct entry to the Russian site would be WDB1290681xxxxxxx. Locate the chassis model number from your original invoice or option card that came with the vehicle. Note in the example that you must also sub. the 10th digit with a "1". If your inquiry doesn't work the first time-hit "refresh". Worked for me! Good luck.
