1987 190e door handles.
The door handles on my used 190e came unpainted. They appear to be made out of a zinc alloy and are a whitish grey color. If I don't keep spraying them with some type of silicon tire blackening treatment, they won't stay a darker grey which matches the rest of the car. The handles do not appear to have ever been chromed either. Any lasting suggestions?

They are plastic (deform upon impact and then return- a safety item).
Believe it or not, some use peanut butter to regain the color or use Forever Black, see this post Haasman
