124 Advise...

I am back in the market for a Merc.. I have my eye on a 124 in very good shape, it is 91 300e clean, the leather in the interior is clean, the engine purrs,
and the car drives very good. it appears to have been kept well. The guy selling it is dealer, he wants 4500 and says no less. What do y'all think??

That's a very good year for a good car. The 3.0 liter 103 motor is especially good for a DIYer. If you are not a DIYer it's probably good to get a pre-purchase inspection. If you are pretty handy get the CD and the Haynes manual and you will be able to fix just anything on the car. The price sounds reasonable to me.

Theurig, you neglected to mention the mileage, options and size engine. Are any service records available? What, if any, warranty is the dealer offering? With no service records I'd be reluctant to buy the car; however, you should be able to tell if the car has been regularly maintained or simply detailed for resale. As a minimum take the car to an independent tech or a MB dealer and have a thorough PPI done so that you know what repairs, if any, this 300E needs to make it right. Adjust the price accordingly. Check kbb.com for the Kelley Blue Book value of this car based on mileage, options and your Zip Code. $4,500 sounds reasonable, but it all depends on the real condition. As the saying goes ... 'there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes'.

Thanks

oops forgot to mention the mileage is 129000, and yes it definately looks like it had been taken care of. I will however definately have it inspected before. I just wanted to make sure $4500 was a reasonable price.

True

That is very true, this is my second mb purchase. There was a gentleman in Key west who had offered me a mint 124 for 5000, and when I say it was mint, I mean this car was mint, I should have jumped on it. This one is quite close in comparison.

4500 is pretty reasonable price, I'd make sure everything (all windows, a/c, etc.) works first though and that the suspension is tight.
